History of the V220

The W220 S-Class represented the pinnacle of 1990s automotive engineering and established new standards for safety, comfort, and technology.

Development began in 1992 with focus on revolutionary safety systems including dual-stage airbags and electronic stability control.

The W220 debuted in October 1998 for the 1999 model year, introducing the long wheelbase variant to compete in the ultra-luxury segment.

Production concluded in May 2005, replaced by the next-generation V221 platform with evolutionary design refinements.
